Communication, multibranding and a single source of truth are the three pillars on which Chameleon is built.

To support our vision, these are the first concrete steps we are planning to take to arrive at our ideal world. The word "first" is chosen deliberately, since our practical realization may change over time.

Chameleon gets its name from its adaptability. With Mediahuis being a collection of a multitude of brands, the design system needs to support this multibranding out of the box. As a chameleon, it should easily blend in with the context it finds itself in.

To support Mediahuis' multiple teams and to not become a blocking factor itself, Chameleon consists of multiple layers, which each have their importance. This layering allows teams to both invent and spread new patterns and take ownership of their creations.

Tiers denote the multiple layers Chameleon consists of. This layering allows product teams to have their own dedicated design system to improve both internal and external sharing of a team's components.
